  • NOTIFICATION FROM AUTHENTICATION COMMITTEE

    Please be advised that the Authentication Committee of The Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat was disbanded in September 2012 and no longer accepts applications for review.

    The Committee was active for eighteen years and reviewed more than 2,000 works attributed to Jean-Michel Basquiat. During its tenure, it sought to provide the public with a consistent and professional opinion on the authenticity of artworks purportedly created by the artist. The Committee believes it fulfilled this mission and has since ceased operations.

    The Estate and the Committee extend their sincere thanks to all individuals who supported and participated in this effort over the years.

    The Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat does not provide appraisals, nor is it open to the public.

    Beware of fake works. There are numerous inauthentic pieces circulating in the marketplace falsely attributed to Jean-Michel Basquiat. If you are considering the purchase of a work said to be by Basquiat, we strongly recommend researching its provenance and consulting qualified art professionals.

  • The Estate is the heir to the legal rights and interests of Jean-Michel Basquiat. The Estate works to preserve and exhibit his artwork, and to be a source of accurate information about the life and work of Jean-Michel Basquiat. The Estate was administered by Gerard Basquiat, the late artist’s father, until his passing in 2013. It is currently administered by the late artist’s sisters, Jeanine Heriveaux and Lisane Basquiat.
