  • NOTIFICATION FROM AUTHENTICATION COMMITTEE

    The Authentication Committee of the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat was disbanded in September 2012 and no longer considers applications. The Authentication Committee was in existence for eighteen years and reviewed over 2,000 works of art. It believes that it fulfilled its goal of providing the public with an opportunity to obtain an opinion as to the authenticity of works purportedly created by Jean-Michel Basquiat. The Committee wishes to take this opportunity to thank all the people who worked on its behalf.

    Beware of FAKE works

    There are a number of fake works in the marketplace which have been falsely attributed to Jean-Michel Basquiat. If you intend to purchase any work attributed to Jean-Michel Basquiat we strongly suggest that you first research its provenance.

  • The Estate is the heir to the legal rights and interests of Jean-Michel Basquiat. The Estate works to preserve and exhibit his artwork, and to be a source of accurate information about the life and work of Jean-Michel Basquiat. The Estate was administered by Gerard Basquiat, the late artist’s father, until his passing in 2013. It is currently administered by the late artist’s sisters, Jeanine Heriveaux and Lisane Basquiat.

  • The Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat© owns the international copyright to all artwork created by Jean-Michel Basquiat, regardless of who owns the specific works of art.
